10 Beauty Products I Make At Home – Minimal Ingredients – Green Life In Dublin

How are all of You, I hope You are well? Today is the day when I disclose the secrets of what beauty products I make at home. For pennies, with minimal ingredients You already have at home. Interested? You are in the right place.

*Please note. I am not a pro, only enthusiast. Minimal ingredients means no preservatives, so please have in mind that products will have shorter shelf life. Especially if water is involved. Anything with water breeds bacteria if left for too long, so think small batches or DIYs for one or two uses only. Keep in the fridge and use within a week.

I’ve been a DIYer for forever, I enjoy making something with my hands and saving myself some monies too. With time some of the recipes are changing, some are perfected during the years. Others I stopped using for various reasons, for the example coconut oil scalp mask – although I do find it soothes my eczema and makes my hair soft, it also is so hard to wash off and leaves my hair looking greasy for up to a week. Who has time for that? Internet is full of beauty recipes, You will have to find what works for You.

DIY LIQUID EYe LINER

I have two versions for You. Both couldn’t be easier to do, require no preparation or even buying extra products or ingredients. All You need to have is either a black eye shadow or mascara. Any type would do and You can use other colours too.

Version 1: You need a mascara and small slanted eye brush.

All You need to do is dip brush in mascara and apply as eye liner. Couldn’t be simpler, right?

Version 2: You will need an eyeshadow, lid or small shallow bowl and a brush.

Spray some water into a lid or a small bowl, dip the brush into water and then into eye shadow. Depending how pigmented Your shadow is, You might need to do the dipping a few times before applying it as eye liner. This method isn’t for precise cat eyes, but You can create some nice natural looks with it. Your shadow does not have to be black either, You can use any colour. I would advise not to spray water directly into the shadow as that will breed bacteria in it within days. Got Yourself some cream eye shadow? Perfect, You can skip water step. Enjoy!

BODY OIL

Couldn’t be easier. Find my cheat secret in this post below.

DIY DETOX BATH

This is a video from back in the day when I was making Youtube videos. Once again, the recipe is super easy and affordable. I suggest You watch other ladies videos too, You might pick up even more tips!

mAGNESIUM OIL

80% of us are deficient in magnesium. It is a calming mineral that is a must for me. I DIY this thing all the time, for two reasons. It is super easy and sooo much cheaper than buying it in the stores.

MANUKA HONEY FACE MASK(s) – endless possibilities

You might see a theme by now, I love perusing the ingredients of products that pique my interest. Yes, green beauty scene is full of fabulous masks. But oftentimes they are priced at a premium. I noticed they are often honey based with different active ingredients added to it, but honey is fabulous for the skin on it’s own too. Manuka, even more so. I talk about 12 variants of these type of masks on my old blog here – I worked really hard on that post. You are most likely to have those ingredients in Your kitchen anyway, so why not enjoy free home spa session from time to time?

Ps. Manuka honey is different than other honeys and I do go into details and the science behind it in that post. But. It is expensive, so substitute with local honey, raw if You can get it, don’t sweat it.

DIY OIL BASED PERFUME

Remember the body oil? Very similar, You only need to increase essential oil concentration just a little bit. You will see exact recipe in the post below.

DIY DEODORANT

This is my tried and trusted recipe for 15+ years. Three ingredients and a pretty jar to store it, that’s all You will need. One little disclaimer before I direct You to the recipe – this contains baking soda, which might burn some people’s underarms. So please please make sure to test a small patch for a day before using it. I personally never had any problems, but that happened to my daughter. I have heard of some people getting sensitivities to baking soda after weeks and weeks of use. So trust Your judgement and discontinue use if You feel irritation. Better safe than sorry. Natural deodorant is a tough nut to crack, it is down to the very specific PH. Too high and You will burn Your skin. Too low and the formula might not work. This is why people (including moi) have such a hard time finding natural deodorant that will work for them. Again, it is all to the individual’s ph levels. What works for me, might not work for You and the other way round. This is exactly why I decided to DIY a deodorant in the first place. Too many crappy products and too much money wasted finding the “one”. As I said, that was 15 years ago and I never looked back. I was actually very lucky as that was my first try and it worked like a charm. For people with baking soda sensitivities, fear not, there are other ways to formulate a natural deodorant. Some formulas use magnesium as a base. That’s right, the very same magnesium oil DIY we just talked about, might be used as a deodorant. Other brands (like Living Libations) offer essential oils rollers as deodorants. So there is a way for You, it just might be a bit more of a trial and error.
